if I was him I'd be less concerned about possible vermin in the kitchen and more worried about the strange beast sat on his head
It's a Draecena, Duncanr. This particular one is a Massangeana, or corn plant. Requires very little care (great for those long rat sieges when you can't water), and blooms once a year. Perfect for warfare, and lovely for any shape of head!
